- Creating Sensory-Friendly Mental Health Wards: Opportunities and Challenges Workshop: Tailored for those working in ward-based adult mental health settings, this workshop will explore opportunities for creating sensory-friendly wards.
- ASI Equipment and Spaces Workshop: Join SIE’s Beth Smithson and Active Play Therapies’ Anna Willis to discuss ideas on how to set up your own Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI) space and how to choose the right equipment.
- Sensory Inclusive Schools: Navigating Opportunities and Overcoming Challenges Workshop: Perfect for those working in educational settings, this workshop focuses on enhancing sensory inclusion in schools, addressing specific school-based sensory issues and challenges.

Conference Programme
Dr Sarah A. Schoen, PhD, OTR
Director of Research at the STAR Institute. Dr. Schoen is an Occupational Therapist with over 35 years of clinical experience and a doctorate in Occupational Therapy from New York University (2001). She is also an Associate Professor at the Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.
Dr Schoen is a co-author of the Sensory Processing Three Dimensions Scale. She is nationally recognized for her research, educational programs and clinical expertise. In 1997, Dr. Schoen received the Recognition of Achievement Award from AOTA, the Virginia Scardina Award of Excellence in 2011 and the A. Jean Ayres Award in 2022.

Dr Shelley Mulligan PhD, OTR/L.
Associate Professor Dept. of Occupational Therapy at University of New Hampshire
She has published extensively in the area of sensory integration, and her program of research involves the evaluation of sensory motor functions and sensory processing disorders in children. She is co-author (along with Dr. Sarah Schoen) of a new measure of sensory processing, called the Sensory Processing 3 Dimensions Assessment (SPD3D).

Dr Annemarie Lombard
The Founder, CEO and Thought Leader behind Sensory Intelligence®. Annemarie is an Occupational Therapist with a Ph.D., and has written several books and many articles.

Dr Gustavo Reinoso, PhD, OTR/L.
Associate Professor in the Occupational Therapy Department at Drake University. With over 25 years of experience, he has worked with children and youth with disabilities across government, private, educational, and community settings. Dr. Reinoso has co-authored numerous scientific publications in textbooks and professional journals, establishing himself as an expert in sensory processing and integration.

Professor Heather Kuhaneck, Ph.D., OTR/L, FAOTA
Professor and Founding Program Director of Occupational Therapy in the Recreation, Tourism, and Sports Management Department at Southern CT State University. Her clinical practice as an occupational therapist included a specialization in autism and sensory integration, working in urban, suburban, and rural public schools as well as private clinics.
She is certified in Ayres’ sensory integration and is fidelity trained. A Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association and the co- editor of Case-Smith’s Occupational Therapy for Children and Adolescents. She is also the editor / co-editor of 3 editions of Autism: A Comprehensive Occupational Therapy Approach and 2 editions of Making Play Just Right. She is a co-author of the Sensory Processing Measure first and second editions.

Michele Parkins
A fellow of Dr. Lucy Jane Miller, OTR, and a recognized past faculty for the Sensory Treatment and Research Institute under Dr. Miller, where she assisted in the design of the certification courses in Sensory Processing and Integration assessment and treatment for therapists worldwide. Michele is leading research on the bidirectional relationship of sensory motor and social emotional experience alongside Dr. Sarah Schoen, OTR/L. She is also assisting with the standardization and development of the Sensory Processing Three-Dimensions (SP3D).

Karen Forrest
Highly experienced occupational therapist and advanced sensory integration practitioner. Working in a mixture of NHS community, hospital and forensic settings. Karen’s interest is in the role of sensory integration differences in the formulations of individuals who have offended or who are cared for in restrictive environments.
She believes there is a real need to provide high-quality assessment of individual sensory needs, informed by the underlying neuroscience, to further inform the functional assessment of behaviour and appropriate and compassionate positive behavioural support planning.
She believes this is the way forward in supporting the person to participate and achieve the best possible outcomes in relation to quality of life, as they perceive it.
- Sensory Friendly Environments in Forensic Services & Secure Settings
Leanne Duggan
A lengthy career in adult mental health and a Senior Occupational Therapist and Advanced Sensory Integration Practitioner from Cork, Ireland. She is currently working with the Mental Health Services for Older People. A significant part of her professional role is offering a sensory lens with which to work with clients accessing the service. Leanne has a particular interest in using sensory-based approaches with clients with a diagnosis of Dementia. She offers input in both inpatient and community services as part of her role. Leanne is also a marker with Sensory Integration Education, as well as co-lead of the Mental Health Special Interest Group.

Kim Griffin
Occupational Therapist and founder of GriffinOT.
The core focus of my career has been helping children who have sensory processing differences and/or motor skill challenges. This includes extensive experience supporting children with developmental delays, dyspraxia/DCD, specific learning difficulties and autistic children. This background has provided me with the knowledge and motivation to set up the GriffinOT online supports.
I believe that occupational therapists have unique skills which can help children who may have sensory difficulties, and /or poor coordination skills. My goal is to ensure that all families and school have immediate access to this occupational therapy expertise. I want them to know how they can help their children to succeed at the things that are important to them.

Sarah Lloyd
Highly skilled Occupational Therapist who has spent much of her career working in CAMHS teams in England and in Scotland. Whilst working in Fife CAMHS (2005-2013), she was given the chance to develop a specialist CAMHS / Social Work team working with children who were looked after and this became the Springfield Project. It was during this time that she developed the BUSS Model.

Ciara McGill
Ciara Mc Gill is an Advanced Practitioner Occupational Therapist in the Community Adult Learning Disability Team at the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, Northern Ireland. At her employment she is an SI work mentor.
Ciara also works as a private OT for Evolve at the National Autistic Society in their day Centre located in Carryduff. This day Centre is a bespoke facility for adults with Autism and behaviours of concern.
In 2019, Ciara completed her Masters in Sensory Integration Therapy. In 2020, she published research in the British Journal of Learning Disabilities; 'Can sensory integration have a role in multi-element behavioral intervention?'. An evaluation of factors associated with the management of challenging behaviour in community adult learning disability services.
Ciara works as a Specialist visiting lecturer at SHU and supervises SI Master students with their research projects.

Alison Dear
A Speech and Language Therapist and clinical mentor who has supported young people in special schools for over twenty years. Recognising the potential value of the sensory perspective in her setting, post graduate study led to qualification as Advanced Practitioner in Sensory Integration. In 2017 she became one of the first Speech Therapists in the UK to be awarded a master’s degree in this field. She remains committed to ensuring that as many children as possible experience the benefit of sensory friendly environments by embedding her knowledge and practice into the ethos and culture of schools.

Frederique Lindh
Freddy is an Occupational therapist in forensics, mental health rehabilitation and CAMHS. She is instrumental in The Sensory Friendly Inpatient Environments project a collaboration between Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust (BDCFT), Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYFPT) and Advonet; where the aim is to improve the sensory experience of inpatient wards for neurodiverse service users.

Anna Willis
An experienced specialist occupational therapist, Advanced SI Practitioner & director of Active Play Therapies. Anna set up Active Play Therapies 10 years ago, striving towards offering the best neuroaffirmative approaches and providing consultancy services to schools and organisations. She is particularly interested in working at a whole school level alongside SENCOs and senior leadership teams to create neuroaffirmative educational environments. She has set up and designed various sensory integration rooms and sensory spaces over her career.

Rosalind Rogers
Chair of Sensory Integration Education. A Fellow of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, senior lecturer and Fellow of her University’s Centre for Higher Education Research and Practice, Rosalind Rogers has been Chair of Sensory Integration Education since 2014.
